A 50+ mile self-supported, checkpoint-based endurance challenge held in honor of Diane Schwendiman and inspired by her example of courage, grace, and perseverance.
Schwendiman T3 50 is a self-supported adventure ultra held in honor of Diane Schwendiman. Participants will move through a required checkpoint sequence, make their own route decisions, and attempt to complete the full effort within one calendar day.
Participants may start anytime on race day. Official time starts when a participant checks in at the start checkpoint and ends when the participant checks in at the final checkpoint.
The Schwendiman T3 50 is held in honor of Diane Schwendiman, an extraordinary woman who lived with courage, determination, and grace.
After developing Guillain–Barré syndrome early in life, Diane faced lasting pain and challenges that made many ordinary things more difficult. Still, she accomplished so much. She carried those challenges with such grace that many people never saw the full weight she was carrying.
This adventure is inspired by her example. A single day of chosen difficulty cannot compare with the challenges Diane faced, but it can give us an opportunity to practice what she demonstrated throughout her life: continuing forward with courage and grace when the way is hard.
During the T3 50, there will be moments when moving forward hurts—when participants are tired, discouraged, or unsure they can continue. In those moments, this adventure invites us to remember Diane and to practice being the kind of people we want to be, especially when it is difficult.
The first year of the Schwendiman T3 50 is an experiment, and participation is free. If you are interested in joining us, email paceofadventure@gmail.com to let us know. We’ll use that email to share additional details as race day approaches.
Finishers may choose to receive a wooden finisher medal and leather keychain. These keepsakes will be ordered the day after the event, and participants who want them will pay only the cost of materials and shipping.
The final price will depend on the number of finishers. The current estimate is approximately $30 per finisher for the medal and keychain together. Purchasing the keepsakes is completely optional and is not required to participate or receive an official finish.
Checkpoints must be completed in order. Missing a required checkpoint means there is no official finish.
